Choosing the correct type of paper for your print can feel tricky at times, but it needn't be. Out of the three main options of matt, gloss, or lustre, you will typically find one that suits your personality and picture most.
Gloss suits bold photographs, often with higher contrast and deep blacks. But it does reflect the light, so it is something to take in to account when displaying under glass.
Matt prints have long been favoured in the art world, and particularly suit collectors, as traditionally the papers tended to hold the image for longer. This is not the case now, as all papers would be expected to last several hundred years. Matt prints still retain their position in the art world, and are tended to be favoured over their glossy counterparts.
Lustre (or satin, or pearl) prints are a perfect middle ground. They have a soft shimmer, without causing too many reflections, but also work wonderfully with both deep black and subtle tones of grey.
